Tarzan Brown Race Turned Over To Chamber Of Commerce, Kelley's Pace

MYSTIC, CT — The Ocean Community YMCA, with the blessing of Tarzan Brown’s family, have made the decision to turn the beloved Tarzan Brown road race over to a partnership of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce and Jeff Anderson of Kelley’s Pace.

Here is a statement from Yolla El Khoury, Executive Branch Director:

The Ocean Community YMCA has had the privilege of organizing and sponsoring the Tarzan Brown Mystic River Run for several years. This event is a great way to honor the legacy of Tarzan Brown and his family while bringing the community together. While the Ocean Community YMCA will no longer be the organizer, the Mystic Chamber of Commerce and Kelley's Pace will continue to hold this successful event. During this transition period, the Ocean Community YMCA will support them. We would like to thank all our sponsors and volunteers who have contributed to the success of the event over the years.

Jeff Anderson, owner of Kelley’s Pace said “We are excited to take over the management of the Tarzan Brown Road race. This historic race fits into the mission of Kelley’s Pace and compliments the 4 other races we produce. Our vision is to create a well-organized race, attract area and regional runners to experience one of the countries more scenic race venues, River Road in Mystic.” All of Kelley’s Pace’s races have a nonprofit beneficiary, and they are pleased to partner with the Mystic Chamber of Commerce. Jeff went onto say “Their expertise in promoting Mystic, its businesses, and creating community family events will ensure this legacy race will continue for years to come while raising funds for the Chamber.”

Bruce Flax, President of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is proud saying “This race fits well into the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce’s mission to connect with and deliver to the community. Tarzan Brown was a world class runner having won the Boston Marathon twice and earning a place on the 1936 US Olympic team and his legacy is important for the region.”

The 49th Annual Tarzan Brown will take place as always, on the first Sunday in November, November 3rd. It will be a 5-mile race beginning at 1pm. Registration is open and can be done at runsignup.com/Race/CT/Mystic/TarzanBrown
