The Businesses Stonington, Mystic and Pawcatuck Lost in 2012
While the area welcomed many new businesses in 2012 residents in Stonington, Mystic and Pawcatuck also said goodbye to few favorites.

With 2012 rapidly coming to close, people are already making plans for 2013, but there will be a few businesses missing from the New Year. Nearly 100 individuals filed papers for business trade names certificates with the Stonington Town Clerkâs Office in 2012. And while many of those businesses quickly became local favorites, Stonington Mystic and Pawcatuck also lost some businesses in 2012.
Here are five businesses we said goodbye to in 2012:
- Theresaâs Culinary Creations: After nearly nine years in Stonington Borough the shop just couldnât compete with a poor economy, lack of foot traffic and Tropical Storm Irene.
- Boathouse Antiques: After their building was sold, owners Kathy and Bill Cole decided it made more sense to retire then search for a new space.
- Guyâs Gourmet on the Go: The eatery in Pawcatuck opened in March of 2012, and shut its doors for good just a few months later after losing power for several days due to Hurricane Sandy.
- Vegetable Ivory and Organics: The Olde Mistick Village Shop that was just a little over a year old sold handmade Ciclantacea Palm seed jewelry and gift items. Owner Desiree Richardal closed her shop this year, but plans to concentrate on private sales.
- Savin Rock Roasting Company: The restaurant connected to Quality Inn on Whitehall Avenue in Mystic didnât have an easy time getting up and running. Power outages delayed its opening in 2011 and in 2012 the restaurant closed for good. La Luna Ristorante took over the location.
