The Planning And Zoning Commission Is Looking For A Few Good Committee Members

Wanted: Volunteers to sit on the 2014 Plan of Conservation Development committee. Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission said last week they hope to tap in to the town’s vast “talent pool,” and are looking for letters of interest.

The commission will also be developing an application for those that may be interested in serving. That form is slated to be posted on the town website once created and approved. 

The current Plan of Conservation Development was adopted by the PZC in June of 2004 and while many changes are anticipated, at least one commissioner, Frances Hoffman, hopes the current plan will be a boilerplate for the 2014 document.

The original document took 18 months to complete and includes chapters and sections on community issues, resource protection, villages’ protection and enhancements, a how-to on guiding appropriate development and desired growth and future land use.

Developed with Plan metrics, a planning and zoning consulting firm based in Avon, CT, the POCD is described as an “important resource to guide the community,” the plan seeks to create a “common vision,” for Stonington’s future.

The Plan of Conservation and Development is required under a state law, which describes the plan as a “blueprint for the future development” of Stonington.
