You know, I was speaking to a friend today, who was reminding me how remarkable it is that my daughter has an opportunity to be dancing at the same school, where I discovered dance as a passion… It’s quite crazy, really. A de ja vous’esq kind of crazy.
Her class had Nutcracker Spectacular rehearsals tonight, and this time i had my two other ankle biters with me. My little boy wanted to see what all the fuss was about so I brought him up to studio 3 to watch the company rehearsing with the school. He just stared, eyes the size of marbles, frozen in a trance by all the synchronized movement. As i peeked in the door, a burst of warm air and the smell of sweat and hard work hit me in the face. It brought with it all the memories of countless hours in that very room, listening to Goran shift us around, perfecting our spacing. Sure, it was draining, but it was the most exhilarating thing i had done to date. Over time… I grew to need that tiredness to feel accomplished at the end of the day. All the repetition and pushing forward made me better and I thrived off of it.

Watching her be in the same studio, dancing with her class and listening to the same voices i had delegating me, really evoked something special. It brought my heart to a feeling of ’safe at home’.
So on a lighter note, this thanksgiving… I am thankful for the the people who gave to me… and are now giving to my daughter, and I’m thankful for the shared love of dance, that is now a precious gem for our relationship.
