What types of pain does acupuncture help with?
It can alleviate pain from injuries as well as back pain, neck pain, tendonitis, bursitis, headaches, toothaches, sprains, strains..........

The Balance Method of acupuncture, my specialty and personal favorite method, helps with all types of pain. It can alleviate pain from injuries as well as back pain, neck pain, tendonitis, bursitis, headaches, toothaches, sprains, strains, muscle spasms, sciatica, arthritis, tennis or golfer's elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, and piriformis syndrome. I have also helped many people avoid injurious behavior as well as prepare and carry out a quicker recovery after surgery.
With the Balance Method, we do not do acupuncture in the area of pain. Instead, we do specific points in other areas. This treatment reprograms the brain to open the channels where the pain is, so that the pain goes away and healing can happen.
How does acupuncture relieve pain? When there is pain, there is usually inflammation. Acupuncture helps to reduce this inflammation, increasing circulation to the area so that fresh new blood and nutrients can come in. I tell my patients, "During the treatment, your clean-up crews come in and do tissue repair."

Acupuncture helps the body to increase production of its own internal pain relievers, the endorphins. Endorphins go to opiate receptors and decrease pain and stress. This allows people to reduce the dosage of painkillers or pain relievers. With more endorphins circulating in the body, pain and inflammation decrease and the body is better able to repair itself.
When you come in for an acupuncture treatment at Stonington Natural Health Center, you and I will go over your health history to get a full picture of your ailment. Then you receive a deeply relaxing and healing acupuncture treatment. You can receive an optional complimentary 10-minute therapeutic massage from one of our massage therapists. We then meet again to create a treatment plan and go over effective herbal formulas that can speed up your healing.
