A 4,000 Mile Journey From the Seat of a Bike
Stratford resident and Sacred Heart University student, Lauryn Kostopoulos, will be spending her summer helping end poverty housing.
The Summer of 2014 was filled with love, sweat, and tears as Lauryn Kostopoulos set out on her bike to help end the war on poverty housing in the United States. Her passion for helping others led her to the Fuller Center for Housing, which is a grass root Christian ministry whose mission is to end poverty housing throughout the world. She spent last summer cycling from Atlantic City, New Jersey to Portland, Oregon over the course of 9 weeks and 3,600 miles. One of the most rewarding aspects of the trip across country was partnering with the local covenant partners of the Fuller Center to help them with their ongoing home building/renovating projects. Examples of home repairs can include a wheelchair ramp, a new roof, or extreme renovations for a home that is in disrepair.
This summer Kostopoulos plans to ride 4,000 with the Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure, which has raised more than $1 million since 2008. The trip is scheduled to begin June 5th in Oceanside, California and end August 16th in Portland, Maine.
“My goal is to raise $1 for every mile I ride. With the help of a previous rider, Mark Major, I was able to partner with Disney to support the Fuller Center for Housing of Central Florida. For every $1 I raise, Disney will match up to $500.”
