AARP Driver Safety Course Open to Bridgeport-Area Seniors

AARP Driver Safety Course designed for individuals over the age of 50

On Friday, April 10, The Watermark at 3030 Park will host an AARP-sponsored safe driving course designed for individuals over the age of 50. The class will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior living community, located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.

“The rules and hazards of the road are always changing, which makes knowing how to drive safely and in varying conditions an important aspect of independent living,” said Tracy-Ann Samuel, Community Life Director at The Watermark. “We are pleased to offer this course to residents and people living in Greater Bridgeport, and hope that even the most experienced drivers will attend to brush up on their skills.”

The course will be taught by an AARP instructor, who will discuss topics including how to maintain a proper following distance, the safest way to change lanes and make turns at intersections, and how to reduce driving distractions such as eating and cell phone use.

The course will also cover how age-related changes to vision and hearing can affect driving skills by slowing down reaction time. The instructor will address these issues and go over ways to help people safely adapt to those changes on the road.

The class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Due to limited space, reservations are required. For more information or to reserve a space, please call The Watermark at 3030 Park at 203-374-5611.
