Basil the Therapy Dog Was Pleasing People Until the End

Stratford mourns the loss of Basil, who used to greet people outside Dunkin' Donuts on Main Street.

Basil the therapy dog was doing what people needed him to do right up until the end.

Basil, an American Pit Bull Terrier who became a local celebrity around Stratford, died last week just three days shy of his 10th birthday, according to WTNH.com.

Basil’s owner, Brad Moroni, told WTNH that Basil had a form of cancer that weakened blood vessel walls and caused internal bleeding which led to his death.

Moroni used to tie Basil to a tree in front of Dunkin’ Donuts on Main Street in Stratford with a sign that read “Basil — Pet Therapist, Please Pet Me” and he helped put smiles on a lot of people’s faces.

Moroni told WTNH that near the end, the vet needed Basil to get up on the x-ray table and he just jumped up on the table without being asked he always seemed to know what people needed him to do.
