'Comic Monologues' by Stratford Authors on June 14 at Library

Readers Theatre Series Showcases Original Works by Local Authors

The Stratford Library and Square One Theatre Company will continue Readers Theatre Summer Showcase 2012, its annual series of live, staged readings of new and established plays, with “Comic Monologues”, three original monologues by Stratford authors Glory Gallo, Orna Rawls and Mark Lambeck on Thursday, June 14 at 7 pm.  The theatre readings are free and open to the public.

Glory Gallo both wrote and performs her one-woman play,Why I Hate Angelina Jolie”, whose self-explanatory title takes a closer look at the public and private life of the glamorous activist actress.

Orna Rawls’ How I Started Fight4U.com” is a comedy about how an individual (Patti Shea) will “fight the system” for you if you just don’t have the time or energy to protest charges from a utility or service.

Mark Lambeck’s play, Perfect”, focuses on a hair salon receptionist (Melissa Schleier) who is smitten by the son of a client whom she thinks is “perfect” until his mother enlightens her.

All three monologues were recently produced by the Emerging Artists Theatre Company (EAT) and presented at the TADA Theatre in New York City.  Lambeck and Rawls are members of the Stratford-based SquareWrights playwright group and have had readings of their works at the Stratford Library, Blackstone Library in Branford, Eastbound Theater in Milford and on the grounds of the Shakespeare Theater, among other Connecticut venues.  Gallo is a member of EAT’s acting company and has performed several times at the Square One Theatre Company.  This is her first play as an author.  Directors for the evening are Marc Castle, Louis Pietig and Marlana Rugg.
