Hunger Hurts: Help Feed Local Families

August is Food Pantry Month at the Stratford Library

The lobby of the is decked out with colorful shopping baskets, ready to be filled with staples like rice, beans, spaghetti sauce, dried milk and canned vegetables.

It's part of a major push to get the shelves of the community food pantries at and the restocked and ready to help local families.

Patrons are invited to bring nonperishable foods to the library to contribute to our food pantry drive. Canned fruits and vegetables, dried milk, pasta, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, and other basic foods are especially needed.

As part of the same display, the library is offering a brochure listing sources of emergency food in Stratford for those who need food assistance. Of course, we're also a great source for cookbooks full of ideas for economical family dinners -- since who doesn't need to stretch their food budget dollars?
