Bridgeport Cop Charged With DUI In Wrong-Way Crash In Stratford

The officer was arrested on a warrant this week.

STRATFORD, CT — A Bridgeport police officer has been arrested and charged with DUI in connection to a wrong-way crash that injured another person last December in Stratford. John Carrano turned himself in to the Stratford Police Department this week.

Police say the head-on collision occurred shortly after midnight on Dec. 23, 2017, on Broadbridge Avenue near Emerald Place in Stratford. Investigation determined that a car operated by Carrano was being driven on the wrong side of the road, according to Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti.

Carrano was arrested on a warrant and charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive right, driving the wrong way and second-degree assault with a motor vehicle. He was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on April 4.

The Connecticut Post reports that Carrano, 33, a member of the Bridgeport Police Department’s SWAT team, was operating at more than three times the legal limit at the time of the crash. He has been placed on administrative duty, pending further investigation, according to the Post.
