Merrihew Performing Art Scholarships are open to Fairfield County graduating Seniors going on to pursue dance, voice and/or musical theater in college.&nbsp; Click the QR Code below to fill out your application by April 19th.&nbsp; This year one $5,000 and one $2,500 Scholarship will be awarded by a panel of adjudicators at the 2026 Parker Project Benefit Concert on Saturday, May 9th at 7pm, Mertens Theater.&nbsp; The Parker Project has awarded over $95,000 to SAM Scholarship winners and over $50,000 to students in the arts.<figure><img src="https://cdn20.patchcdn.com/users/25906283/20260407/024800/26-pp-apply-igsq-1___07144759750.jpg" id="26_PP_APPLY_IGSQ (1).jpg" data-image="26_PP_APPLY_IGSQ (1).jpg"></figure>

For its last concert of the 2025-2026 season, the Music in the Meetinghouse series at First Church welcome Andrew Smith on violin and Christopher Ungerer on piano to its Fairfield sanctuary. This concert, set for 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, will feature a program that includes pieces by Mozart, Grieg and more!&nbsp; Both artists have played to international acclaim at concert halls throughout the world and First Church is honored to welcome them to its sanctuary, which served as the town's first meetinghouse. Tickets for this concert are available only at the door. They are $30 for adults; $20 for seniors and $10 for college students. Those 18 and under are admitted for free.&nbsp;

Susan Fehlinger will present an oil painting demonstration hosted by the Shelton Art League at 1 pm on April 20, 2026 at the Shelton Community Center, 41 Church Street, Shelton, CT, 2FL, Rm #2.The league’s general meeting starts at 11:45 am.Susan, a TV Producer in NYC for over 30 years, attended art classes at The School of Visual Arts, and painting workshops in the summers on Cape Cod, Monhegan Island (Maine) and Prince Edward Island.In 2003 she traded her NYC job for a B&amp;B on Cape Cod and began painting seriously.In 2014 she moved to Black Rock, CT and broaden her subjects to include coastal architecture and cityscapes.Her painting style emphasizes her interest in texture, color, and light; and she applies her paint thickly with a palette knife to highlight structure, form, and shadow.She is member of many art societies and guilds in CT and exhibits in various galleries and centers throughout the area.Visit <a href="https://www.sheltonartleague.org" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.sheltonartleague.org</a>. Robert A. James Sr. Obituary
Robert Alexander James Sr., age 82, of Stratford, beloved husband of Linda James, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 3rd, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on February 13th, 1944, in Bridgeport and raised in Fairfield, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen Yates James. Bob lived a simple and humble life, defined by devotion to his family and always selflessly putting others in front of himself. A man of calm, patience, and humor, Bob was as quick to lend a hand to anyone who needed one, as he was with a joke, and he brought these virtues along with a strong work ethic to the job at R.E. Michel in Stratford. Additionally, he carried them over to the ball field, where he coached youth sports for many years through Sterling House including baseball, basketball, and soccer.A passionate sports fan, Bob's dedication and loyalty to his Boston Red Sox could not be wavered, enduring many many seasons of highs and lows. During the off season, Bob could be found watching the Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers, and UConn Huskies. He also enjoyed his weekends tuned into the PGA. Bob also treasured the simple pleasures of life - from reading the newspaper every morning to working in the yard to cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Linda to their home away from home in Hilton Head, South Carolina. &nbsp;In addition to his wife Linda, of over 51 years, he leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Robert James Jr., and Scott James and his wife, Michele and his adored granddaughters Kourtney, Keira, Cooper, and Avery. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 4:00 -6:00 PM. All other services will be private and at the convenience of the family.&nbsp;
