Bridgeport Firefighter Killed In Shooting In Stratford: Police

A man is being held in lieu of a $2 million bond in connection with the killing of a Bridgeport firefighter in Stratford, police said.

STRATFORD, CT — A man is being held in lieu of a $2 million bond in connection with the killing of a Bridgeport firefighter early Saturday morning in Stratford, according to police.

Police responded around 1:45 a.m. to Feeley Street on the report of a shooting, according to Stratford Police Capt. Jerry Pinto.

Pinto said arriving officers found a 41-year-old man bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead a short time later by a paramedic at the scene, according to Pinto.

The victim was identified as Terrence Cramer, a Bridgeport resident, according to Pinto.

Pinto said Cramer was an active-duty Bridgeport firefighter for nearly 10 years.

Stratford Police Department Detective Bureau personnel responded to the scene and began investigating the shooting around 2 a.m.

Jabari Bush, 41, was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. in Derby after a brief motor vehicle pursuit, according to Pinto.

Pinto said Bush was arrested on a warrant in connection with Cramer’s murder. The warrant was secured with the assistance of Bridgeport Judicial District States Attorney Joseph Corradino, according to Pinto.

Bush was charged with murder, home invasion, and criminal possession of a firearm. He was being held in lieu of a $2 million bond with a court date of March 30.

Pinto said the Stratford Police Department “greatly appreciates the assistance we received” from the New Haven Police Department, the Seymour Police Department, the Shelton Police Department, the Derby Police Department, and the Connecticut State Police.

"Chief Edwards and the members of the Bridgeport Fire Department are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Firefighter Terrence Cramer," the Bridgeport Fire Department said in a statement on social media. "Firefighter Cramer served the City of Bridgeport with dedication and honor for 9.5 years, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and safety of others. Firefighter Cramer was not only a valued member of our department, but also a friend, colleague, and public servant who will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Firefighter Cramer’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time."
