Burglary In Stratford; Police Seek Help Finding Suspects

A man claiming to be a water employee distracted the homeowner, while two others burglarized the residence.

STRATFORD, CT — One man distracted a Stratford homeowner while two others burglarized the residence Thursday, according to police. The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. on Broadbridge Avenue, where a man claimed to be a water employee, using false identification and saying he needed to come inside and check the water. When the homeowner escorted the man to the basement, two other men entered the home and committed the burglary.

The suspects fled the scene toward Winter Street before police arrived, a department news release stated. They were described by police as:

• A white man, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a white button-down shirt with blue stripes and a gray hat with a red logo;

• A white man of average height with brown hair and a stocky build;

• A white man, about 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with brown curly hair and wearing a white shirt.

Residents should not let strangers into their homes, police stated, and if someone unexpectedly shows up claiming to be from a utility company or other agency, homeowners should call the agency for verification. If there is any doubt, homeowners should not let the person into their home and should call police for assistance.

Investigators are asking anyone who lives near Broadbridge Avenue and Winter Street and may have surveillance video to contact Stratford police at 203-385-4143 or 203-385-4119.
