Calling all Relay For Life Of Stratford Survivors, Caregivers, Teams, Event Staff and Volunteers!

Relay For Life Of Stratford 2017 is holding their Interest Meeting November 1st. We will have a raffle and you can help us pick our theme.

Relay For Life of Stratford is recruiting survivors, caregivers, teams, event staff and volunteers to participate in its 2017 annual event, June 17 and 18 at Bunnell High School. Families, churches, schools, businesses and clubs are invited to participate in the event. Those interested in joining, volunteering or forming a team should attend the Relay For Life informational meeting on Tuesday November 1, 2016, at 6:30 p.m., in the Wooster Middle School Cafeteria. We also want you to help us pick this years theme! So if you have wanted to join but was not sure what it entails please join us.

The premise of Relay is that cancer never sleeps so neither should we. Events can be 24 hours, 18 hours or
12 hours, but all the money raised goes to cancer research, awareness and programs that ACS offer (Look Good Feel Good Program, Hope Lodge, Road to Recovery Rides).

People form teams of 10 or more and fundraise up to and the day of the event. One person from each team
should be on the track at all times during the night (that’s the relay part). On the day of the event participants Party with a Purpose. An event within the event, known as the Survivor Reception features cancer
survivors showered with food, entertainment, guest speakers and gifts. Meanwhile, the teams set themselves up around a track with tents and their on-site fundraiser. The start of Relay For Life begins with a lap
done by the survivors and their caregivers. The rest of the night features walking or running, entertainment, comradery, and reflection.

There also will be a luminaria ceremony during the night. A luminaria is a candle lit bag that is
bought by anyone that is decorated in honor of someone who battled cancer and won or in memory of someone who has succumbed to cancer. In 2016 we added a slideshow that features participant submitted memories of loved ones that played after the luminaria ceremony concluded.
