Churches Team Up for Community Suppers
A half-dozen local churches take turns feeding the hungry at a weekly community supper.
Every Wednesday, struggling families, homeless people and those otherwise down on their luck gather at for a big meal and warm company. A coalition of local churches alternate providing the food on a weekly basis, but their mission is shared: to help the hungry.
“These people eat seconds and thirds,” said Jim Hodska, outreach director at . “They don’t go home hungry.”
Since January, the Stratford Clergy Association (which includes a half-dozen churches) has sponsored these weekly “community suppers” with the help of dozens of volunteers. Hodska said the gathering came to fruition after hearing questions from people on where they could get a bite to eat.

About 35 people show up each week, not counting a dozen or so volunteers, and Hodska expects the program to grow as the word spreads. When that happens, the food should still be plentiful.
“We have enough so people can take something home,” he said.
