COLUMN: Stratford State Senator Fights for Road Project

RTE 113 Construction Update

As you are well aware the Rte 113 project is close to being finished.

I have been working tirelessly over the past year to force the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) to make sure the Route 113 project is done properly. There have been many road blocks and frustration behind the scenes, but I am here to tell you there is progress.

A huge win was getting the state to elevate the new road to with stand a 5 year storm surge. (Original plans had the road sitting too low with massive potential for flooding.) While I am encouraged with this change there is still reason for concern. In order to keep the road from future flooding I will be pushing for the state to create natural buffers.

I do not want the project completed only to find out there was something else that could have been done to avoid more flooding.

Meantime, the state has completed removal of Raymark waste and Rte. 113 was reopened to traffic earlier this summer.

Construction of the relocated Rte. 113 will be completed over the next few weeks.

State Transportation officials say on July 27 the road will be closed so crews can complete the tie-ins at either end. (vehicles will not be able to drive between Sniffens Lane and Dorne Drive) during that time period.

This work should take about 2 weeks and then new Rte. 113 will be reopened around September 1, 2015, weather permitting.
