Coronavirus Stratford: 2 New Cases Confirmed In Town
A Wilcoxson Elementary School student who was the first person in Stratford confirmed to have the virus has since recovered, officials said.
STRATFORD, CT – The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus has risen to three in Stratford, officials announced Sunday.
A man in his mid 40s and a woman over 80 both tested positive for the virus, also called COVID-19, according to a town news release. A Wilcoxson Elementary School student who was the first person in Stratford confirmed to have the virus has since recovered, the news release said.
“These two new cases are unfortunate, but entirely anticipated,” Mayor Laura Hoydick said in the news release, urging residents to stay home and frequently wash and sanitize hands and surfaces.

The two people who recently tested positive for the virus are under medical care and will be self-quarantining, Director of Health Andrea Boissevain said in the news release.
As of Saturday evening, there were 223 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Connecticut, 140 of which were in Fairfield County. Five people had died of the virus statewide.

COVID-19 has brought sweeping changes in recent weeks to daily life for Connecticut residents. In Stratford, all municipal buildings are closed to the public, although town personnel remain reachable by phone and email. Town board and commission meetings have been canceled. Schools are closed, and students are learning remotely. Across Connecticut, restaurants, hair salons and other businesses not considered to be essential by the state have been ordered to close in an effort to slow the virus.
