Discarded Hot Ashes from Fireplace Damages Stratford Home: Fire Officials
Officials say discarded hot ashes from a fireplace that were put into plastic bags and placed outside caused extensive damage to a home.

STRATFORD, CT — A Parkland Drive home sustained extensive fire damage as a result of discarded hot ashes from a fireplace that were put into plastic bags and placed outside, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded to 25 Parkland Drive shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday to find a fire that had extended up from garbage bins left next to the garage creating “a large amount of damage to the side of the home,” according to Stratford Deputy Chief, Fire Marshal Brian Lampart.
“Four engine companies and a truck company, working under the command of Assistant Chief Reitmeyer were able to bring the fire under control, without any reported injuries within 15 minutes,” Lampart said in a press release. “The Stratford Fire Marshals Office investigated the cause of fire. With the assistance of the Building Official, Deputy Fire Marshal Daniel was able to isolate the damaged area from the living space allowing the occupants to stay at home.”
