Disgraced Stratford Pastor Defrocked

State commission removes Genevicz's ordination amid allegations he stole from elderly parishioners; his church stands by him.

Officials for the Stratford Baptist church are standing by their man even though Rev. Dr. Robert Genevicz has had his ordination removed amid allegations that he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from elderly church members, according to the Connecticut Post.

Rev. Dr. Judy Allbee, executive minister of the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut, told the Connecticut Post that the commission has “removed the recognition of Reverend Genevicz’s ordination” and he is no longer ordained.

Stratford Baptist church officials told the Connecticut Post that they stand by their previous statement: “The church supports fully Pastor Genevicz in these matters and desires that he remain pastor of the church.”

Genevicz recently wrote a typewritten confession Stratford police and blamed his acts on his 15-year relationship with a woman with an extensive criminal record.

Genevicz is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 7. He was charged with first-degree larceny in March.
