Patricia, who has been an enthusiastic Aqua Zumba® student for some time, was originally diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in 1995. Since then she has faced a host of formidable challenges. In November 2005 her cancer metastasized to her bones moving her to stage IV status. Patricia has since continued to face weekly chemotherapy treatments – something that she does not allow to stop her from participating in her Aqua Zumba® routine, even when this happens to be on the same day as treatment.
The cancer has not been her only foe. Even some of the very treatments that were supposed to help Patricia have created further health issues. Due to bone metastasis, she was treated with a bone strengthening agent for 18 months to help prevent fractures, but developed a rare side effect, known as osteo-necrosis-of the jaw. As a result, Patricia had to spend 80 hours undergoing treatment in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at Norwalk Hospital.
Despite all of this, Patricia continues to retain a positive outlook. She is blessed to be living with metastatic breast cancer at a time where its prognosis is excellent, with proper monitoring and treatment. She is also blessed with the wonderful support of her family, friends and medical team as well as those at breastcancer.org, she continues to fight this winnable fight.
Thank you for your kindness and support!
