Fire Leaves 3 Homeless In Stratford: Officials
Crews extinguished a basement fire late Tuesday night.

STRATFORD, CT — A basement fire left three adult residents homeless late Tuesday night in Stratford, according to fire officials. The residents of 84 Garibaldi Avenue called 911 at about 11:45 p.m. on April 24 reporting a basement fire, according to Deputy Chief / Fire Marshal Brian Lampart.
“Firefighters arrived to find a heavy smoke condition and fire venting through the basement window and under the command of Assistant Chief Brennan, fire crews were able to contain the fire to a small section of the basement,” Lampart wrote in a press release. “The Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the cause and found it to be related to an extension-type cord located under storage that was used to power a sump pump. The cord failed igniting a wooden shelving unit, its contents and parts of the interior framing.”
No injuries were reported at the scene and the residents will not be able to return home until damage can be repaired and inspected by the Stratford Building Official, according to Lampart.
