1 Sent To Hospital After AC Causes Apartment Fire In Stratford
The apartment is temporarily uninhabitable.
STRATFORD, CT — Stratford firefighters responded Monday to an apartment fire that resulted in the tenant being taken to a local hospital. First responders were notified of the blaze by a fire alarm at 10:25 a.m., Lt. Matt Morse said.
A tenant of the apartment at 450 Ferry Blvd. was treated on scene and transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation, according to a department news release.
Fire damage was confined to a third-floor bedroom, according to Morse, but there was smoke damage throughout the unit and the apartment is temporarily uninhabitable. The blaze started behind the furniture at floor level, according to the news release, and took about 30 minutes to control, Morse said. The Stratford Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the blaze was a failed extension cord being used to power an air conditioner.
