GOP Leaders Klarides and Fasano Throw Support Behind Hoydick for Mayor in Stratford Primary

Top Republicans in State Call on Stratford Republicans to Support GOP nominees Sept. 12th

STRATFORD – The state’s two highest ranking Republican officeholders today issued strong endorsements of Laura Hoydick in her bid to become the next mayor of Stratford. Connecticut House Republican Leader Themis Klarides (R-Derby) and Republican State Senate President Len Fasano (R-North Haven), are urging Republican voters in Stratford to cast their votes for Hoydick in the Republican town-wide primary on September 12th.

“I know first-hand how much Laura Hoydick cares about Stratford, and I have seen her fighting on behalf of her community every day as a legislator,” said Rep. Klarides, who is the first woman to lead the House Republican caucus in the history of the state legislature. “Her sense of commitment to her hometown, and her talent and skills in building consensus to achieve policy goals is one of the reasons I selected her to be a Deputy Republican Leader. At the state capitol, she has been at the forefront of fighting the job-killing policies of the Malloy administration, opposing their massive tax hikes, and working to protect the people of Stratford. She has an excellent reputation, and a level head – something that is so important in serving as mayor. I would urge Republicans in Stratford to get out on September 12th and vote for Laura Hoydick.”

“The excellent reputation Laura Hoydick has in both chambers of the Connecticut General Assembly has made her extremely effective as a legislator for the people of Stratford,” said Sen. Fasano. “Stratford couldn’t find a better mayor to govern with conservative principles, while building bridges of consensus across the political divide. I hope the Republicans voters of Stratford will get out on Primary Day and cast their vote for Laura Hoydick.”

Hoydick, who currently serves as State Representative for the 120th District in Stratford, was nominated overwhelmingly by Stratford Republicans by a vote of 48-4 at their convention at the Mill River Country Club on July 20th.

“It is an enormous honor to have the endorsement of the Republican leaders of both chambers of the legislature,” said Hoydick. “It is so important to me to have the support of these leaders who have lead the fight for lower taxes, economic expansion and job growth across the state. As mayor, I look forward to working with these state leaders to continue these important efforts, and make meaningful differences for the people of Stratford.”

Klarides and Fasano also added a note of support for the entire endorsed slate of Republican candidates down the ballot, particularly Council Candidates Chris Pia in the 1st District, and Bill Perillo in the 7th District who are also facing primary challenges.

Hoydick said that while her challenger in the primary has also declared her intention to be on the ballot in November as a petitioning candidate regardless of the outcome of the Republican vote in September, that isn’t something Hoydick is willing to consider.

“I am running as a Republican and I have received the party endorsement,” she said. “Because of my faith in the Republican voters of this district, I will not disregard their choice the way my opponent intends to. One of the essential elements of my campaign and how I will govern as mayor is through collaboration and cooperation with a team. I am proud to stand along with all of the other endorsed GOP candidates – we share a common vision for the future of this town. My participation in that team of leaders isn’t disposable to me.”
