Gospel Singer Sentenced For Stealing $200K From Elderly Man

The woman was accused of conspiring with a former Stratford pastor to steal more than $200,000 from an elderly man.

STRATFORD, CT — A gospel singer has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing more than $200,000 from an elderly Trumbull man in a conspiracy with former Stratford pastor Robert Genevicz, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports Doraine Reed, 60, was also sentenced to five years of probation and was ordered to pay restitution in a case the judge said “shocks the conscience.”

Reed was hired as a health-care aide for Arthur Devack, of Trumbull, and accused of working with Genevicz to convince Devack to make her his sole beneficiary, according to the Post. Devack died in 2010 at the age of 88.

Genevicz was also charged with stealing nearly $400,000 from a retired Stratford school teacher who has since died. He faces up to 60 years in prison when he is sentenced next month, according to the Post.

In July 2014 Genevicz wrote a typewritten confession to Stratford police and blamed his acts on his 15-year relationship with a woman who he said led him to make bad decisions.
