Police officers heard a gunshot as they knocked on the Stratford man's door.

A Stratford man, who was a person of interest in the case of a missing Bridgeport woman, was found dead in his house Monday evening after apparently shooting himself as police knocked on his door.

Marcus Jackson, 36, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday evening, hours after human remains were found in Stratford.

Bridgeport and Stratford police were working together Monday morning, investigating the disappearance of Minnie Lincoln, a 57-year-old Bridgeport woman, when they located human remains in a marshy area behind an industrial on Watson Boulevard in Stratford.

Bridgeport and Stratford Police, with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police and the FBI, had been investigating Lincoln’s disappearance since she was reported missing on March 31.

Police developed strong leads and began a search on Monday in the Watson Boulevard area and located human remains.

The Connecticut Post is reporting that the remains belong to Lincoln, however, Bridgeport police spokesman Bill Kaempffer said the remains have not been identified pending an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office.

On Monday evening, police returned to the home of Jackson, who was a person of interest in the disappearance of Lincoln and the last person she was seen with on March 27.

As police knocked on his door, they heard a gunshot, according to Kaempffer. Jackson was found dead inside the house from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“This is a horrible episode and our thoughts go out to the communities in Bridgeport and Stratford,” Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch said in a statement. “Police have worked tirelessly trying to find and bring Minnie home. But, there is information we do not yet know. Detectives are continuing to search for those answers.”

Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. said Bridgeport and Stratford police seamlessly worked together in the investigation with the assistance of CSP and the FBI.

Lincoln, of Bridgeport, was last seen at 11:12 p.m. after she left the Old Timers Club at 1296 Stratford Ave. She was escorted out by Jackson, the owner of the building. They were last seen walking together to Jackson’s truck, a Ford F150 pickup and they were last seen traveling south on Wilmot Avenue, according to Kaempffer.

Detectives investigating the disappearance spoke with Jackson and other witnesses and reviewed hours of security footage from the area.

The results of the investigation led police to the Stratford site.

Police were expected to remain at the location overnight and resume processing the crime scene on Tuesday.
