I-95 Reopens In Stratford After Pedestrian Killed In Crash

The interstate was completely closed going south for about three hours Wednesday morning.

STRATFORD, CT — A pedestrian was struck and killed early Wednesday by a vehicle on Interstate 95 in Stratford between exits 32 and 31 on the southbound side of the highway.

The crash occurred about 6:30 a.m., according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation website, which referred to the crash as a two-vehicle accident and reported backups for almost 8 miles nearly three hours later. The interstate reopened about 9:30 a.m. after being completely closed for hours.

Stratford Emergency Medical Service Director Michael Loiz confirmed a pedestrian was struck, and state police confirmed the person was killed. Loiz said his agency was seeing traffic routed off I-95 and onto Route 15 as of about 9 a.m.

Milford Public Schools said that, "Due to a traffic accident on I-95 this morning local roads in Milford are experiencing congestion. Milford Public School busses will be delayed but will be picking up our students. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

A separate accident on the I-95 south ramp to the Milford feeder, which led to a closure briefly is now reopened. That accident involved three vehicles on Route 796 northbound vicinity of Exit 3A.
