Jack Stoeber, Decorated Navy Veteran from Pearl Harbor, Dies

Jack Stoeber, who was Milford’s last remaining Navy veteran who served at Pearl Harbor, has died. He was 97.

The Connecticut Post reports that Stoeber was a 1936 graduate of Milford High School and joined the Navy soon after. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the attack by the Japanese, and he also participated in the invasions of Okinawa, Iwo Jima and the Phillipines.

After the war, Stoeber became an aircraft mechanic at Sikorsky.

Stoeber had been living in Stratford at the Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Florence.
