Judge Rules On Stratford’s Election Battle

STRATFORD, CT — The ultimate outcome of the race for state representative in the 120th District will be decided by the state house following a decision by a Superior Court judge on Friday, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis granted a motion for an emergency injunction, barring the secretary of the state from certifying a winner in Stratford’s 120th District until the state house has a chance to decide who the representative will be. Bellis said the court doesn’t have jurisdiction in the case and the authority rests with the state house, according to the Post.

Democratic incumbent Phil Young was declared the winner in the race for state representative in the 120th District by 13 votes over Republican challenger James Feehan following a recount. Feehan asked the judge to throw out the results and order the state and the town to hold a new election for the district due to ballot errors that were made on Election Day.

It was determined that a packet of ballots for the 122nd District were given out to voters in the 120th, voting for both were taking place at Bunnell High School, and Young and Feehan weren't on the ballots for the 122nd District, the Post previously reported.
