Major Broad Street Construction Project Starts Soon In Stratford

The work is expected to be finished next summer.

STRATFORD, CT — Construction on a nearly $5 million improvement project on West Broad Street will start next week.

The work will take place on Linden Avenue and West Broad Street from Interstate 95 up to and including the California Street intersection, according to a news release from the mayor's office. Improvements will include road widening; addition of turn lanes; full-depth pavement reconstruction; drainage improvements; traffic light improvements; granite curbing, sidewalk and driveway apron construction; street trees; pedestrian scale street lighting and more.

A major component of the project will be the widening and regrading of the pavement and addition of a new light at the I-95 Exit 32 westbound off-ramp, as well as additional drainage pipes and culverts in the vicinity of the railroad overpass.

VAZ Quality Works LLC was awarded the contract by the Stratford Town Council in September of last year on the basis of their lowest bid submitted of about $4.9 million, according to town documents. The project was designed by the engineering firm of Stantec Inc.

The project is funded in part with a federal and state transportation grant totaling 90 percent of the construction costs, with the balance paid using town capital bonds.

The work is expected to be completed in the summer of 2020.
