Man Charged After Cops Find Crack In Stratford Motel Room

The incident occurred the morning the man was scheduled to be sentenced in a separate shoplifting case.

STRATFORD, CT — A Bridgeport man doubled the length of time he will spend in prison after police found him in a Stratford motel room full of drugs the morning of his sentencing for a shoplifting case in Trumbull, according to the Connecticut Post. Steven Williams, 51, had pleaded guilty to charges in the June 2018 theft from Target and agreed to spend nine months behind bars, the Post reported.

A judge Friday doubled that sentence on the grounds that Williams violated his sentencing agreement after police were sent early Friday morning to the Stratford Motor Inn in response to a report of a woman screaming and found Williams surrounded by drugs, according to the Post. When police arrived, a disheveled woman told them she was homeless and Williams invited her to share a room overnight, the Post reported. Inside Williams' motel room, officers discovered crack pipes, marijuana and crack cocaine, according to the Post, which reported Williams struggled with police.

Williams is charged with felony assault of a first responder and felony sale of a controlled substance, as well as six misdemeanor charges, in connection with the incident Friday, according to court records. His next court date in the case is set for Jan. 16.
