STRATFORD, CT — A man was arrested after police said he was found with a “ghost gun” and drugs after engaging officers in a “slow speed pursuit” Tuesday in Stratford.

Stratford Police Department Narcotics and Vice detectives were patrolling the west side of Stratford when they saw a blue Saturn travelling on Bruce Avenue bearing a Connecticut registration plate that belonged on a black Infiniti, according to Capt. Jerry Pinto.

Pinto said the detectives tried to conduct a motor vehicle stop, but the driver “decided to engage the detectives in a slow speed pursuit.”

The investigation determined that Newton was in possession of an illegal ghost gun, Pinto said.

“A ghost gun is a working firearm made from polymer material that does not have a serial number.,” Pinto wrote in a news release. “These illegal firearms are commonly known as a Polymer 80.”

Newton was arrested and charged with illegal transfer of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, illegal alteration of a firearm/no serial number, illegal possession of marijuana with intent to sell, engaging police in pursuit, misuse of registration plates, no operator’s license, no insurance, and no tint inspection sticker.

He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond with a court date of June 28.
