A man's life was saved after he suffered sudden cardiac arrest after shoveling snow in Sunday's major winter storm, according to officials.

STRATFORD, CT — A man’s life was saved after he suffered sudden cardiac arrest after shoveling snow in Sunday’s major winter storm, according to officials.

Stratford’s Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call Sunday night for a man in sudden cardiac arrest after shoveling snow, according to a post on the Stratford EMS Facebook page.

“While heavy snow and dangerous road conditions challenged every response, our system worked exactly as designed,” officials wrote in the post.

Officials said immediate CPR instructions were provided by emergency dispatchers, Stratford EMS units 806, 800, 807, and 8D2 responded rapidly, and the Stratford Fire Department’s first responders provided critical early care.

“Together, our teams delivered coordinated basic and advanced life support, achieving return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) on scene — a powerful reminder of why early CPR and advanced prehospital care saves lives,” officials wrote in the post. “The patient was then transported to a local hospital for continued treatment.
