Meet the Artisan: Greg Corvino

Get to know a few of the artisans you'll see this Sunday at Artists & Artisans in Paradise.

Greg Corvino

Wood Craft

A longtime Stratford resident and Teamster, Greg Corvino, owner of "Birdseye Houses," only took up the hobby of building birdhouses a few years ago.

"I started building them for myself, for fun. Then people started asking me to build something for them. It just led to constant building."

Yes, this is practical artwork. His own backyard on Birdseye Street has 14 birdhouses, all currently occupied.

"These are the kinds of houses you can mount on a 4x4 in your yard," he says. "They'll attract New England wrens and finches."

His houses have attracted more than just songbirds. Customers from across the region have fallen in love with the detail work of these quirky cottages, lighthouses and mills.

"At my last show, one customer bought a house because he said it looked just like his chalet in Vermont."

His 23 years driving construction-grade equipment has also inspired him to create handmade toy cars and construction vehicles that kids will love.

"I love doing these shows. I keep my prices reasonable, you know," Corvino says. "I'm not in it to make a fortune. I just love talking to the people."
