Alfred Lester Fernald, age 94, of Mansfield, Texas, passed away at home peacefully in his sleep Nov. 14, 2019, due to cancer. He was a good provider for his family and willing to help friends and neighbors throughout his life.
Alfred was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to H. Lester Fernald and Alfreda E. (Grundy) of Stratford, on July 29, 1925. He was predeceased by his wife Joan E. (Crossley) (1988), brother James (2014) and sister Alice M. MacFarland (2019). Alfred is survived by his sons, Paul and his wife Susan Delear of Montgomery, Vermont; John of San Diego, California; and daughter Martha and her husband Richard Garrow of Mansfield, Texas. He also has several nieces and nephews and extended family.

Alfred was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Theater. Alfred returned to Stratford and worked first as a general contractor then a service manager in the boating industry until retirement. Throughout his life Alfred enjoyed hiking, fishing, sailing, and traveling throughout the United States and Canada.
A memorial service will be held in Connecticut in the spring.
