Obituary: Joan May Griffin, 100, of Stratford

STRATFORD, CT — Joan May Griffin, 100, of Stratford, passed away surrounded by her family on February 14, 2019. Joan was born in Bridgeport on April 9, 1918 to Joseph and Mary (Collins) May and she had 8 siblings. Joan was married for 61 years to Charles W. Griffin Sr. and together they had 6 children, Charles Griffin, Jr. (Judy), of California, Nancy Milo (George) of Shelton, and Robert J. Griffin (Valerie) of Stratford, with whom she resided. Joan leaves 11 grandchildren to cherish her memory: Joan, Kelly, Brenden, Tracey, Brian, Dennis, Jesse, Ian, Eric, Adam and Elliott. She also had 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and 3 of her sons William (Red) Griffin, David (Diane) Griffin, and James (Cheryl) Griffin.

Joan worked as a manager in the China department at DM Reads until her retirement. She was an avid walker and she was loved dearly by all who knew her.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 2110 Main Street, Stratford. Friends and family may pay their respects in the morning on Wednesday, the 20th from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. James Church “Care of Our Father’s House”, 2110 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615, or to a charity of one’s choice.
