Obituary: Joseph Gill Sr., 60, Of Stratford

He was known by many for hosting the best celebration in town for viewing the 4th of July fireworks.

STRATFORD, CT — (From Pistey Funeral Home): Joseph Gill Sr., 60, of Stratford, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, following a heroic battle with cancer. Joseph was born in Bridgeport the day after Christmas 1960, one of 11 children born to the late Eleanor O'Neill Gill and William Gill Sr.

Joe retired as a mason after over 30 years, and was known for his attention to detail. Joe had a sports allegiance to the New York Giants, and the Boston Red Sox. Joe lived in Stratford for most of his life, eventually moving to the Lordship section of town to raise his family. He was known by many for hosting the best celebration in town for viewing the 4th of July fireworks.

Joe was an avid golfer and loved to play with his sons, brothers, and nephews often at Short Beach and Oronoque golf courses. He was a witty and caring Uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and a doting and loving Father and Grandfather.

Joe is survived by his beloved sons, Joseph Gill Jr. and wife Courtney, and James Gill both of Lordship. He is also survived by his grandson, Henry Gill; former wife and dear friend, Denise Gill; three loving sisters, Kathleen Neumann and Mary Helen Halligan of Oxford, and Julanne Gill of Stratford; five loving brothers, William Gill, Jr. of Madison, Richard Gill (Karen) of Naugatuck, Francis "Frank" Gill (Karen) of Stratford, James Gill (Sandra) of Shelton, and Charles Gill (Kate) of Stratford; 10 nieces and 10 nephews; eight great-nephews; eight great-nieces; many cousins, and his precious dog, Molly. He is predeceased by his brothers, Edward and Michael; and sister-in-law, Laurene.

His family would like to give special thanks to his niece, Anna, for her unwavering support and care in his final days.
