Obituary: Paul Charles Yucaneer, 83

Yucaneer worked for the Town of Stratford in Public Works as a tree surgeon for 37 years before retiring.

Paul Charles “Pops” Yucaneer, 83, of Owaneco, Illinois, and formerly Stratford, Connecticut, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Paul was born Feb. 1, 1936, in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Charles P. Yucaneer and Marie Horton Yucaneer. He married Gail Fuehrer in New Haven, Connecticut, July 29, 1962. Gail passed away in 2008. Paul worked for the Town of Stratford in Public Works as a tree surgeon for 37 years before retiring. Before Alzheimer’s took over, Paul loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Paul moved to Illinois in 2012 to be closer to his grandchildren and great granddaughter. He will be remembered as a happy soul who loved his fishing rod and family.

Paul is survived by his loving son Jeffrey (Christine) Yucaneer, Owaneco; son Brian (Kim) Yucaneer; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Alana Yucaneer all of Owaneco; Heathyr and Douglas; great grandchildren Lennon and Cyrus; sister, Cathy Magyar of Connecticut.

In addition to his wife Gail, Paul was preceded in death by his parents Charles Yucaneer and Marie Horton Konstance, step-father Howard Konstance, brothers-in-law Russell Fuehrer and Andy Magyar.

In accordance with Paul’s wishes to help others, his remains have been gifted to the SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale. Private family services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and food, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or the St. Mary’s School We Believe Campaign. McClure Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the Yucaneer family with arrangements.
