Obituary: William C. Connell, 82, of Stratford

William C. Connell, 82, of Stratford passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016. Mr. Connell was born July 19, 1934 in Bridgeport, son of the late Charles L. and Elizabeth (Carney) Connell. He was a lifetime Stratford resident.

William was a retired teacher for the Stratford School System, specializing in Ancient History. For many years, William served as an altar boy at St. James Church. He graduated from Stratford High and received his Bachelor of Arts and Master's degrees from Fairfield University. He loved to play his clarinet for church and school programs and with his Dixieland jazz group.

In college, he was a track star excelling in long distance running. He enjoyed playing tennis and was a faithful fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his devoted sister and caregiver, Mary Elizabeth Connell, of Stratford and many cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Saint James Church.
