Pets Rescued, Family Displaced After Fire In Stratford
Two pets were rescued after a garage fire extended into the basement of a home, according to officials.
STRATFORD, CT — Two people were displaced from their home after a fire Thursday afternoon in Stratford, according to officials.
Firefighters responded around 2:45 p.m. on July 4 to multiple 911 calls reporting smoke and flames from an attached garage on Brooklawn Avenue, according to officials.
Officials said crews extinguished visible fire from the front of the garage, and the fire that extended into the basement.

“Station coverage was provided by the Nichols Fire Department and Milford Fire Department, while all on-duty units extinguished the fire,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “The Bridgeport Fire Department was called to the scene for additional manpower due to the weather conditions presented.
“There were two pets removed from the residence with no other injuries reported to the occupants. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshals office at this time.

“The Stratford Fire Department would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors, regularly practice an escape plan, and call 911 immediately upon observation of smoke or fire.”
The American Red Cross is helping one family – two adults – after the fire. American Red Cross responders included Liz Griffith, Susan Delgado and Sheri MacKenzie, according to a news release.
“The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more,” officials wrote in the news release. “The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, shaving supplies and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire.”
