Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2018

Stratford EMS urges you to remember our First-First Responders!

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2018

Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community from around the country, are honored. It’s called National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. This week-long event, is a time to celebrate and thank those in the 911 center who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their contributions to the safety and security of our community, their hard work and dedication.

This year, April 8-14, Stratford EMS encourages everyone to remember our Public Safety Dispatchers and all that they do for our community.

The Stratford Public Safety Communications Center (SPSCC) is a four position, municipal, consolidated primary service answering point (PSAP). Answering 911 and dispatching Police, EMS and Fire services. With 11 full time dispatchers, 1 part time dispatcher, 2 supervisors, and 1 part time administrative assistant, the SPSCC handles some 40,000 requests for service per year (911 and routine) and process more than 128,000 inbound and outbound phone calls per year (about 350 per day). Thousands of keystrokes are completed into our Computer Aided Dispatch system each day.

Dispatch is required to perform numerous tasks due to the 24/7/365 nature of their operation like performing law enforcement database checks, performing emergency medical dispatch and providing pre-arrival instructions per state of CT statute, monitoring field units at emergency scenes like structure fires, Administrative notifications, logistics coordination and even weather station monitoring. Further the center plays an active role in Stratford’s EOC operations.

These multi-tasking, “first-first responders” do so much behind the scenes for our public safety personnel and community and are poorly understood and rarely recognized for the amazing and incredibly important work they do.

This Telecommunicators Week 2018, Stratford EMS asks you to join us in thanking our Public Safety Dispatchers: Heather Admans, Scott Burton, Joe Clark, Cheryl Schneider, Annie Diaz, Tracy Zurheide, Michael Schneider, Carol Stosse, Alex Gaydos, Ashley Carmona, Anthony Mauro, Bruno Morais, Melissa Figueroa and JP Sredzinski for all that they do every day!
