STRATFORD, CT — Five people were injured and about 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled in a crash Monday on Interstate 95, a fire official said. The incident occurred at 12:35 p.m. at southbound exit 30, where a semitrailer hit a minivan, according to Stratford Fire Department Shift Commander Michael Camperlengo.

When first responders arrived, they discovered the semi was leaking fuel and contacted the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to assist with cleanup, Camperlengo said. The center and right lanes and the exit ramp were closed in the aftermath of the crash, according to Camperlengo. Stratford officials applied a patch and drying material to stop the leak, and the roads reopened about two hours after the incident.

Both drivers and three passengers in the minivan were transported to a hospital for minor injuries, Camperlengo said.
