UPDATE: Winner Declared in Stratford Special Election

A special election was held Tuesday night to fill the unexpired term of longtime State Rep. Terry Backer.

UPDATE:

The longtime assistant to late State Rep. Terry Backer will fill his 121st District seat and unexpired term, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports Democrat Joe Gresko has defeated Republican Susan Barksdale in Tuesday night’s special election by an unofficial tally of 1,339 to 873.

Stratford residents can vote until 8 p.m. tonight (Feb. 2) in the special election to fill the 121st District seat and unexpired term of longtime State Rep. Terry Backer.

Backer died at the age of 61 on Dec. 14 after a five-year battle with brain cancer.

Republican Susan Barksdale and Democrat Joseph Gresko are the candidates.

Residents can vote at six school locations, Lordship, Stratford High, Johnson Academy, Franklin, Nichols and Wooster, according to the Connecticut Post.
