(Square One website)

Instead of LUNGS, Square One Theatre’s next production will be...

TRYING

May 2 through May 19, 2019

TRYING is a two-character play based on the playwright Joanna McClellan Glass' personal experience during 1967-1968 when she worked for Francis Biddle at his home in Washington, D.C.
Judge Biddle had been Attorney General of the United States under Franklin Roosevelt. After the war, President Truman named him Chief Judge of the American Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, Germany.

The play concerns a young Canadian girl and an old, and sometimes cantankerous Philadelphia aristocrat ‘trying’ to understand each other in what Biddle realizes is the final year of his life.
Square One audience favorite AL KULCSAR (The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelky) returns to the theatre in the role of Biddle with CELINE MONTAUDY making her Square One debut as Biddle’s Canadian secretary.

Hailed as "Comic and touching." (The New York Times) and "Exquisitely literate, moving and compelling." (Variety)
