St. James Students Take on Challenge of Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew'
The school's drama club will put on its production this weekend in Stratford.
Director Dean Kyburz says he’s bringing Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew to St. James School’s Drama Club because “it is the ultimate acting challenge.”
More than 36 students are involved in the upcoming production that will be performed on May 2 at 7 p.m. and on May 3 at 3 p.m. at the St. James School Gymnasium in Stratford.
“By attempting something very difficult, you gain tremendously,” Kyburz said.

As a career actor, Kyburz has performed in numerous Shakespearean plays.
“There is a very good reason that Shakespeare has been so popular for over 400 years,” he said. “His humanistic view of the world, with people dependent on one another… His outstanding use of poetry… Witnessing a well-done Shakespearean play is a very special thing.

“It’s difficult, but the students are up for the challenge.”
In his voluntary role as director of the St. James Drama Club for more than 15 years, Kyburz has had a profound impact on the students and the satisfaction of having inspired some to pursue theater and production in high school and beyond.
The public is invited to experience this ambitious production. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.
