State Supreme Court Rules Stratford Must Rehire Former Police Officer

Court overturns an Appellate Court ruling from January 2013.

The State Supreme Court ruled Monday that Stratford must rehire former police officer Justin LoSchiavo, who was fired in 2010 for lying about a medical condition that led to him crashing his police cruiser, according to the Connecticut Post.

The court’s decision overturns an Appellate Court ruling in January 2013 that reversed a Superior Court ruling in October 2011 that ordered the town to reinstate LoSchiavo.

LoSchiavo, who is now 34, suffered a seizure on June 6, 2009 while driving his police cruiser, which crashed into four cars and caused $25,000 in damages. The town later fired LoSchiavo after learning that he had failed to inform doctors that he had suffered at least three seizures since 2004 and had been abusing alcohol, according to the Post.
