Sterling House Breakfast May 21: Beasley Reece, '89 Trumbull LL
Little League World Series 1989 Champions to be feted on 30th anniv; former G-Man Reese is Celebrity Breakfast speaker at Trumbull Marriott

Former New York Giant Beasley Reece will be the special guest speaker at the May 21 Sterling House Community Center's annual "Celebrity Breakfast" at the Trumbull Marriott (7:30 a.m.). In addition, attending members of the 1989 World Champion Trumbull National Little League team will receive "Spirit Award" citations in recognition of the upcoming 30th anniversary of their championship season.
Reece, a NY Giant defensive back from 1987 to 1993, is also well-known for his sports broadcasting career including in Connecticut at WVIT (NBC-30) as sports director and an on-the-air personality. Reece also did color commentary for the 1992 Summer Olympics, and just last December, Reese was named CEO of the NFL Alumni organization.
NFL Alumni's "membership includes thousands of retired players, coaches, front office executives, spouses, cheerleaders, and avid fans. A primary mission of NFL Alumni is 'Caring for Our Own' as we inform, assist, and serve players in their post-NFL lives," according to its web site at NFL Alumni.

However, if you are older than 40 and a long-time greater Stratford-Trumbull-Bridgeport-Fairfield area resident, then you no doubt remember that warm August 1989 afternoon in Williamsport, PA, home to the Little League World Series, when the Trumbull National Little League team took the baseball world by storm in a thrilling, nationally and internationally televised 5-2 win versus Taiwan.
For those who watched or traveled to see the game in person, seeing Trumbull pitcher Chris Drury jump for joy after recording the last out of the game against the favored Taiwan Little League team is certainly memorable, as was the Associated Press (AP) newspaper image of same that was seen by millions worldwide.

Hard to believe that this year - 2019 - is the 30th anniversary of those happy days afterward including the huge homecoming the team received when it returned to Trumbull.
Today, team members are all in their early 40s!
Those memories, questions and answers with Reece, and more will be feted on May 21 at the Trumbull Marriott as part of Sterling House Community Center's annual Celebrity Breakfast.
A handful of Trumbull players and coaches from the celebrated 1989 squad are expected to be on hand at the breakfast to accept this year's Sterling House "Spirit Awards" given to a local person or people who have made a difference in local sports. All proceeds from the breakfast benefit the programs and services - including youth and adult athletics - offered by Stratford-based Sterling House, a non-profit agency founded in 1932.
