Stratford Baseball Falls To Brookfield In Home Opener

The game was moved up one day due to inclement weather concerns, according to officials.

STRATFORD, CT — The Stratford High School baseball team fell to Brookfield 6-1 in the home opener at Penders Field on Tuesday. The game was moved up a day due to inclement weather concerns.

Senior Josh McDowell got the start, pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up five runs, four earned, with one strikeout and four walks. Junior Joe Booska came in for the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed only one run.

Brookfield finished the game with nine hits, while drawing six walks and getting hit by a pitch twice.

Stratford was led by senior Brady Knorr’s hard single and double to the left-center gap scoring Ron Kerkes for its lone run. Stratford finished the game with three hits. The team’s only other hit a double laced into the gap by junior Jake Kszywanos.

Tuesday’s contest was the first league game of the season in the South-West Conference.

Stratford returns to action on Friday at 4:15 p.m. at Penders against Bridgeport Central and then plays again Saturday morning at 11 a.m. against East Catholic in the Penders Memorial Scholarship Game.
