STRATFORD, CT — Short Beach and Long Beach in Stratford will be closing at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 in “anticipation of a large gathering of youth and out of an abundance of caution,” Mayor Laura Hoydick and Stratford police announced.

“Short Beach will still be accessible for sporting activities and golf. Stratford CT Police Department will be stationed at the entrance to the beach,” Hoydick wrote in a post on Facebook. “We are actively monitoring the area to ensure safety. Thank you for understanding.”

A crowd of around 2,000 people gathered at the beach in West Haven on Monday for a party that was advertised on social media, according to reports. Multiple fights broke out and an officer was injured, police said.
