Stratford C.A.R.E.S. Responds To The Opioid Crisis

Join us on Wednesday, Sept. 11, for a support group session on 'Hope & Healing.'

In response to the opioid crisis and sharp increase in cases of substance use disorder in our Connecticut towns, the Community Addiction & Recovery Education & Support Group, (C.A.R.E.S.) is holding a grand reopening of “Stratford C.A.R.E.S.” Hope & Support Group beginning Wednesday, September 11th from 7-9 p.m. at the Stratford United Methodist Church Center, 2600 Main Street, Stratford CT. This first session will be on “Hope & Healing” led by Stratford C.A.R.E.S. new facilitator, Dr. Teresa Spencer. The nonprofit C.A.R.E.S. Foundation provides free, weekly drop-in support groups for parents, family members, and other concerned individuals whose loved ones are using or abusing mind-altering substances.

“The family members of those afflicted with substance use disorder are often forgotten when a crisis strikes. So often the guilt and shame that accompanies this disease prevents people from reaching out and seeking help”, says Donna DeLuca, C.A.R.E.S. co-founder and mother of two children once addicted. She and her son Matt, a young man in recovery from opioids, began C.A.R.E.S. in an effort to help others and to combat the stigma of addiction.

C.A.R.E.S. has partnered with community advocates including Tammy Trojanowski and the Stratford Health Department, Reverend Simeon Law from the Stratford United Methodist Church, and Stratford, CT first responders.
